You know “The One”.  The One that makes your heart flutter and your soul leap.  The One that makes your scalp sing – and refreshes hair.  You know what I am talking about – “The one” dry shampoo of course!  Here is to our search for “The One”!

I love dry shampoo.  I love not washing my hair in the morning.  And I love feeling like no one can notice :).  I have decided I would try some of the most talked-about dry shampoos, and see which ones lived up to their hype.  To throw in a free tip – I have discovered that spraying the dry shampoo a good 6-8″ away from my head gives the best results.  No need to shoot it right into you roots.  Instead, apply with a little distance so the shampoo is able to spray widely.  (This also gives me less of an itchy scalp.)

I love to use dry shampoo to add texture, remove oil, and freshen up my hair.  I still style the hair again (can’t rely on hair you’ve slept in!), but it is fresh and doesn’t need another cleaning :).  Here is my criteria for a good dry shampoo:

  • Reasonably priced (shouldn’t be more expensive than regular shampoo)
  • Removes oiliness
  • Adds body/volume
  • Adds texture (optional – but I prefer this)
  • Smells good (optional)
  • Refreshes hair

MomTip: Use this hair dryer (that is taking the world by storm) to wash your hair at night, and style it in the morning! I sleep with my hair in a wet braid, and this hair dryer revives my hair and completely style it in under 10 minutes. It's a game changer.

Best according to your Grandmother / Most Classic

You don’t argue with a classic.  Batiste Dry Shampoo Original holds its own as the classic and the most long-standing of the bunch.  It is arguably the most traditional option.  At $8.46, it will never go out of style!  This is my favorite right now.  I have tried a ton of other ones, and this one is the best.  It not only absorbs oil, but makes my hair feel so fresh.  It doesn’t smell as good as the Suave (non Keratin – see below), but still is better for its performance!

Best for Your Money

Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo Spray, Beautiful Clean is the cheapest and best for the price.  I love the smell and the price tag.  I love how simple it is.  However, it doesn’t provide enough texture and body for me – and doesn’t preform as well as the Batiste.  But, for $2.88, I highly recommend this!

Best on Amazon / Most Popular

I have to be honest, even though the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo is top-rated on Amazon, I have tried it and didn’t love it. It seemed “heavy” and weighed down my hair.  And, it didn’t smell as good as the Suave Professionals without Keratin. Have you tried this? Is it as good as the 249 people say it is?  For $2.88, I would just opt to buy the non-Keratin Suave above.

Best on Vitacost / Most Natural

Acure Organics Dry Shampoo is the “it product” when it comes to natural options.  It is for all hair types, is color safe – and is super natural.  The downside?  It has no scent and is $9.98.  The upside?  It is GOOD for your hair!  Get your Vitacost coupon here!

MomTip: Stuggle with journaling? I love the One-a-Day Journal to chronicle daily thoughts - without committing to a journal! Basically, every night before you go to bed, write one sentence about the day – what happened, what you were feeling – a memory. And that’s it. You do this every night – and then after a year you repeat the same process for a new year. And – you can look back on last year to see what happened “this time last year”. I am now on my third year – and I can’t tell you how precious knowing these memories has been. Start today – no need to wait!

Best “Most Expensive”

I am including Sexy Hair Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo because Michelle Money and Laura of the MM&L Show know hair and they swear by this.  I haven’t tried it…but it is on my wishlist.  The downside?  The price tag.  (Marked down to $12.15 on Amazon!)  Still.  Had to include it :).
Honerable Mention:  Tresemme –  it was fine but not remarkable.  Definitely not as good as Suave (non-Keratin) or Batiste.

Please let us know your favorites!  This is something that is worth the research!
