I think the phrase “Capsule Wardrobe” is very new…but the idea is old. The idea is to have a handful of clothing items that act as staples to mix and match – instead of the dozens of often unnecessary pieces that we accumulate.
I don’t know if I am creating a “Capsule Wardrobe”, but I am adopting a new attitude about clothes. I grew up where we bought items on clothes when we saw them in the store. “Oh, look a pair of red shorts on sale…I must need them.” This isn’t a bad approach if you like not having a plan. But I LIKE a plan!
My wardrobe is about halfway to where I want it to be for this summer. I am in the process of purging ALLthe items I don’t want – and then the next step is to budget. I think I am planning to finish this plan by the end of the fall. That gives me all summer (and end-of-summer sales) to accumulate items. And, I am not just buying any old items. I am going to have a plan – and a budget – and I will not waiver!
This is the idea I have:
I probably won’t get everything that I am envisioning. But, I have a plan and would love to make progress.
The rule is, “If I don’t LOVE it – I’m not keeping or buying it.”
I work from home, and have found my daily work clothes lacking. I would love some non-jeans and more-than-tees to wear. I also need skirts and dresses! I have so few and really love them to wear instead of shorts.
This is just a post to let you know what I am working on! No awesome tips here – but click here to read about how I buy clothes for not full price!
